The Fords we're asked about most
The Fiesta stopped production in 2023 but there are still thousands on London streets, and they sell well. The Focus comes in hatchback and estate, petrol, diesel and mild hybrid. The Puma is Ford's small SUV and has become very popular. The Kuga is the bigger family SUV, including a plug-in hybrid. We also buy the electric Mustang Mach-E, the Ranger pick-up and Transit vans.
Watch the 1.0 EcoBoost cambelt
The 1.0 EcoBoost, fitted to millions of Fiestas, Focuses and Pumas, has a cambelt that runs in oil. It has to be changed on schedule, and some fail early. If yours has been done, the receipt is worth having to hand. If it's failed, we'll still buy the car as a non-runner.
Older automatic Fiestas, Focuses and EcoSports used a dual-clutch PowerShift gearbox that could judder. A smooth gearbox, and any repair paperwork, helps the price.
Other things that move the price
ST-Line, Titanium and Vignale trims are worth more than Style or Zetec. Mention optional extras like the B&O stereo or a panoramic roof, since they're easy to miss. Plug-in Kuga owners should include both charging cables.
Before we collect, remove the car from the FordPass app and unpair your phone from SYNC. On older Fords with a coded radio, check the code card is in the handbook wallet.
ULEZ
Petrol Fiestas and Focuses from about 2006 onwards usually meet ULEZ. Diesels generally need to be Euro 6, which roughly means September 2015 or later. Check yours on TfL's vehicle checker.
