Two very different East Londons

The inner boroughs, Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Newham, are mostly flats, estates and permit zones, with good Overground, DLR and Elizabeth line links. A lot of people there own a car they only use at weekends. Further out, Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham and Havering are much more car-dependent, with driveways, bigger family cars and longer commutes.

We collect across all seven boroughs. What changes is how we plan the collection, not the way we value your car.

Flats, estates and towers

Many cars in the inner boroughs are parked in estate car parks, under tower blocks, or in the residents' garages of newer developments around Stratford, Canning Town and Canary Wharf. These are fine. Tell us how the barrier or fob works, any height limit, and whether security needs our details.

If you work at Canary Wharf, it may be easier to meet near the office. We'll need the car park and any building rules. Barking Riverside has grown fast since its Overground station opened, and we often collect from residential car parks there too.

Roads we plan around

The A12 runs out through Hackney Wick, Leytonstone, Gants Hill and Romford. The A13 cuts through Newham and Barking and Dagenham, and meets the A406 at Beckton. The A127 heads east from Romford towards Southend, and the M25 is just past Harold Wood at junctions 28 and 29. The Gants Hill roundabout and the Blackwall Tunnel approach are slow at rush hour, so we'll book a time that avoids them.

ULEZ in East London

The inner boroughs were brought into the ULEZ in October 2021, when the zone grew out to the North and South Circular. Most of Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham and Havering followed in August 2023. Either way, if your car isn't compliant, every trip costs the daily charge. A lot of families in Ilford, Dagenham and Romford have sold an older car for that reason. We buy compliant and non-compliant cars.

What we see from the east

Seven-seaters and big family cars from Redbridge and Havering. Toyota hybrids that have done private hire work. Affordable hatchbacks with MOT failures that aren't worth fixing. Vans from local trades. Commuter cars from people who've moved to the Elizabeth line at Stratford, Ilford, Seven Kings, Goodmayes, Romford or Gidea Park. Ford has built engines in Dagenham for nearly a hundred years, and there are still plenty of Fords on the borough's streets.
